Tesla’s First Electric Truck
A new monster from TESLA : Elon musk unveiled the tesla’s new first electric semi-truck on Thursday evening at an event in Los Angeles along with the new sports car. The first electric truck produced by tesla from 2008-2012 which is emerged from the back of one of the trucks at the end of a presentation that focused largely on the economic and performance needs of truck drivers. The new roadster has the same name as the first electric vehicle.
About cab :
Approaching the cab, you immediately notice the angled windshield wipers , which look like the one on the new Roadster prototype unveiled at the same event and the shiny chrome door handles that are also on the new Model 3 passenger vehicles.
There are no exterior steps like you might find on a traditional truck container. Instead of it the door is long and low. Once the door is opened a set black steps are inside. Walking up the short, steep – steps, a long handle ready for support if you need, you will arrive at the landing. This area is essentially divided into two areas.
The big takeaway here is there is quite a bit of space, and the ceiling height is high enough to allow a person to stand upright. Towards the front of the cab is a central captain’s chair that is flanked by two display screens, one on each side.
The captains chair has an air suspension that will give you the bouncy feel on the rough road surfaces and the seat mounted significantly more forward than of those the Freightliner or International trucks. Behind the cab, the two rear axles have electric motors attached on either side, for four in total. They also come off of existing Tesla models.
The deisgn of tesla truck has the lower center of gravity then other diesel-powered models, something the company has said about its cars relative to rivals with internal combustion engines. While this is unlikely to make a semi truck handle like a sports car, it may go some way toward increasing high-speed stability.
Tesla designers say they maximized the space left over from the battery pack’s positioning to create more space to walk around inside, as well as creating more storage something decided after the company spoke to commercial truck drivers. There isn’t a version with sleeping accommodations, however, but it sounded like a future model change might include this feature.
Elon Musk boasted about the truck’s reliability and durability. He guaranteed the semi truck will not break down for a million miles. The truck will actually anticipate when it needs maintenance and inform you ahead of time,” said Musk, after touting the durability of the “armor glass” windshield.
Elon iMusk boasts that its semi has 400 miles of range after 30 min of charging. By the time you are done with your break, the truck is ready to go. You will not be waiting for your truck to charge. The company plans to build a network of “Megachargers” (as opposed to the “Superchargers” used by other tesla vehicles) that can produce a 400-mile charge in 30 minutes as we said.
The CEO’s promises for the new Roadster were no less ambitious. Musk said the car’s acceleration from 0 to 60 mph and 0 to 100 mph, as well as its quarter-mile speed, were all “world records” for production cars.
He said production on the trucks would begin in 2019 and the sports cars would be available in 2020.
